After West Germany was established in the areas of Germany controlled by the democratic Allied nations, the first anthem used was only used on an unofficial basis, the patriotic song "Ich hab mich ergeben" was used on state occassions instead of a national anthem. (The same anthem, with a slightly altered English translation, is used today as the anthem of Micronesia.)
