The music for this anthem (also known as “Across All Micronesia”, presumably from a line in the second verse) is adapted from the German patriotic song “Ich hab mich ergeben” (which was also the West German national anthem from 1949-1950), variants of this tune are used in Johannes Brahms’ “Festival Overture” and Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony). The tune predates both of these, it can be dated to around 1820. The lyrics also somewhat resemble “Ich hab mich ergeben”, which suggests that the writers of the anthem were well aware of the German work. (Micronesia was once a German protectorate, before it was controlled by the Japanese and then the Americans, but it is unclear if this has anything to do with it.)
