First adopted in 1969 when the island group became self-governing, the national anthem was confirmed upon independence in 1979. St. Vincent and the Grenadines also have a royal anthem, “God Save the King”, as they are a constitutional monarchy with Charles III of the United Kingdom as the head of state.
