Formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles until its dissolution, and now administered as a Dutch municipality (therefore making the anthem of the Netherlands the official national anthem), the local anthem was composed by Christina Maria Jeurissen, a nun of the Dominican order also known as Sister Waltruda. It was adopted as the local anthem on December 6, 1985 by the local council and validated as the municipal anthem upon becoming a Dutch municipality on October 10, 2010[1]. Despite the official language being Dutch, English is widely spoken on the island, and the lyrics are in English. The first and fourth verses are most commonly sung.
