After Lithuania was incorporated in the Soviet Union, it was given a new anthem, since the previous anthem was outlawed. The anthem underwent a slight change after the death of Josef Stalin in that the second verse, which had references to Stalin, had its lyrics changed due to the USSR’s program of “de-Stalinization”.
Special thanks to: Yrjo Makela for some of this information, as well as Jaroslaw Wojcik for the Lithuanian lyrics, and Pavel Zinovatny for the music file.
