The anthem of this tiny sultanate bordered by Malaysia was composed in 1947, almost 40 years before independence, when a group of youths decided that the nation should have a national anthem, and chose two of their own to write and compose it. Adopted in 1951, it was changed slightly upon full independence in 1984 when the Sultan’s title changed from “His Royal Highness” to “His Majesty” and thus a slight change of the lyrics was necessitated.
